Greenbrier Smokey Deuce

Deuce at 8 weeks, his first night in his forever home.
I'd always heard the hype about Labrador Retrievers. America's favorite dog and so on. Jett proved to be everything good in the breed. Deuce? Deuce is a bit more challenging.

Deuce has a fabulous pedigree that doesn't do a thing for him. There are multiple Retriever Hall of Famers in his lineage. I liked the look of his pedigree because I think hunting dogs are smarter. At the end of the trail, they need to think. Deuce is certainly smart, but still too young to think about how he got himself into mischief and avoid it a second time. He's a good dog, though. Very affectionate. Very hard-headed.

Don't misunderstand me. I have an unconditional love for the black furball. He's my dog. I'd take him to work with me if I could. He wants nothing more than to make his mommy and daddy happy.

Except when it comes to his ball. Or his Frisbee. Or a treat. Or a ride. Or a walk. Or jumping into the creek.

Deuce loves water. He's not afraid to jump into the river. I have to keep him leashed so he doesn't float away downstream!

Deuce is only the second dog I've had papers on and it really doesn't make any difference in how much I love him. Rescue dogs are the big rage right now. I've done that all my life. I've taken in stray after stray that came my way.  I wanted to raise one last puppy before I retire, because after Deuce, and after I retire, I may not want another dog to tie me down and keep me from doing a bit of traveling.

I looked back and saw how few pictures there are of Callahan, and I decided to let Deuce have his own blog. Having set him up at Deuce's Day gives me the chance to record his life and share how precious that life is. We try to write at least a blog a week. Yes, he does help.

So instead of shrinking Deuce's young life into a few paragraphs, I invite you to subscribe to his blog and join him on his journey. As I write this, he's only eighteen months old. He has a lot of life to live.

Go to Deuce's Day
