A point to ponder from Pinterest

March 17, 2019

Like what is apparently billions of other folks, I enjoy surfing Pinterest. There are so many pearls of wisdom to be found - it's truly incredible. I found this one the other day and I confess my sense of humor loved it, so much so I decided to share it here.

Think about it...

And if you're in the mood, check out my Pinterest board called, "Every Picture Tells a Story."

The dance of my people

March 19, 2018

Every time I see this, I laugh. I even added it to my desktop backgrounds folder to be part of the rotation. It's usually up on Mondays.

I think we can learn a lot from the horse.

Surrendered Victory

December 19, 2015

Merry Christmas! Everyone I know is saying how they can't believe Christmas is almost upon us, and I'm right there with them. The Year of our Lord 2015 virtually flew by at sonic speed. It was a good year for me and mine, though. We are truly blessed.

I first joined the My Sexy Saturday blog hop on September 14, 2013. Recently, it's occurred to me I need to track what I'm doing. I've got a lot of books out and I'm sure I've missed a few. I need a spreadsheet.

So with that in mind, I'm going back to the beginning and the first book I published for MSS122 - Surrendered Victory.

His hand brushing mine excited me beyond anything I’d ever known. Large, tanned and callused, I knew he earned a living with his hands. His long, strong fingers possessed a muscled elegance, much like the rest of him. Short, neat nails belied his trade, that of a carpenter. I shivered as his hand found mine, hidden from public view between our torsos and the bar. Dalton trailed those well-tended fingernails lightly across my palm, sending me his teasing invitation.

“What do you say? Come back to my place for a while?” His clear tenor held no hint of accent, yet he’d alluded he hailed from somewhere in the South. I’d not heard the story of how he’d made his way to the West Virginian outback, although doubtless he knew my tale.

Everyone in the company knew I’d been banished here by my loving family with little hope for redemption, following some sort of serious disagreement with my father, the supposed details of which continued to fuel the rumor mill. None of my fellow barflies would guess the truth. I didn’t wear it on the skin. It went much deeper, all the way to the soul.

Almost none of the assembled crowd would guess the truth, I corrected myself. Dalton suspected. Clearly, he recognized the indefinable aura that marked us as different, as outsiders. I could still shake my head, decline his invitation, and tender my apologies with no hard feelings. His invitation would remain ambiguous to anyone who’d overheard it.

My body thrummed with awareness of his nearness. I did my best to avoid breathing, since every time I inhaled, the clean, crisp scent of his aftershave sank red-hot talons into my brain. And underneath the Old Spice, undeniable, alluring, dangerous, and unmistakable on the gentle breeze from the ceiling fan overhead wafted a delicious, forbidden male musk.

“I was hoping to have another drink,” I said, matter-of-factly, painfully, acutely aware that all walls have ears. “It was a long day and I need to unwind for a bit.”

His sky blue eyes, so different from my blue-grey orbs, didn’t flicker, reminding me he had some experience at this dance.

Dalton makes Reed tingle in all the right places. Now Reed’s ready to answer the question that’s haunted his every failed relationship. Is he really gay?

Reed walked into Dalton’s life and everything changed. This time, Dalton won’t hide the fact he’s gay from anyone, even his son.

Together they surrender all to each other and claim the ultimate victory – love.

ISWG: The Most Important Thing I've Learned on Pinterest

September 2, 2015

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group

I’m a Pinterest addict. There. I’ve admitted it. And I can do that because we all know I write fiction. But truly. I love Pinterest. All the pretty pictures and colors. The neat craft ideas. The cats! The puppies! The writing funnies…

So I found this bit of advice: Keep Calm - it's only a first draft. Oh, my goodness, are these words to take to heart.

So you’ve written the story and the hero’s name changed halfway through. Keep calm. It’s only the first draft. You can fix it.

So you’ve written the story and the hero started out with brown eyes and ended up with blue eyes. Keep calm. It’s only the first draft. You can fix it.

So you published the story and six months later it suddenly occurs to you how you could write it better. Keep calm. It’s only the first edition. You can fix it.

I could go on and on, drawing from the vast pool of my past mistakes, but I’ll get to the point and move on for the day.

No mistake you make is an original mistake. It's been made before so don’t beat yourself up over it. Honestly. Someone, probably many someones, have accomplished the same feat.

When I started out a good piece of prevailing wisdom was to polish, polish, polish that manuscript before you submit it.

Okay, that’s good advice. You should have your manuscript as spic and span as humanly possible, but don’t get sidetracked when your beta reader/crit partner points out your hero started out with blond hair and now he has black hair. Don’t get insulted. Don’t argue. Don’t throw a temper tantrum.

Keep calm and fix it. It’s only the first draft.

A Fine Foggy Morning

July 3, 2015

It's a fine foggy morning in my corner of the world. Being the start of a four-day weekend, I'm not surprised. To make the best use of the weather, we're setting fire to a brush pile later this morning. Mother Nature provides no shortage of tree limbs for our little fires. It's up to us to burn wisely, that being when the ground is damp and there's no wind to speak of.

The ground here is most certainly damp. This June just past has been quite the rainy season. The annuals in my big pots have loved it, but notice the pool in the background? I've been in the pool exactly THREE times.

Yes, yes, I'm well aware the average temperature in my location for June hovers around 72F. I know this because of local meteorologists keeping records for over a century. (http://i4weather.net/climate.html#TEMPERATURE). Anyway, with all the talk of global warming, I expected better pool temps. Apparently I'm not the only one who's wrong on that. Ten years ago the average temperature for June in my neck of the woods was 73.4F. This year, with global warming, it was 72.6F. I should have gotten a pool thirty years ago and saved the planet.

Yes, my sarcasm is showing and that usually happens only at the day job. My apologies.

To remedy the cool-and-not-in-a-good-way pool temps, we've purchased a solar heating mat. Cost about $25 at that big online monster we all have a love/hate relationship with. My plan for the morning was to hop out of bed and install that puppy asap in hopes of the water in the pool warming to a nice 88F by this afternoon.

But it's a fine foggy morning here. I think I've time to take a cup of coffee to the patio and enjoy the quiet first. Fire and water can wait.

Social media check on KC

October 24, 2013

Oh, I had such grandiose plans for the day. I was going to accomplish so many things. And I almost did - until I started reading a few old blogs looking for a lost link.

I've come a long way since I began to write. Those old blog entries give an account of the last ten (almost eleven) years of my life. Some show their age and some could have been written yesterday. All of them evoke certain memories and I think this is a good thing.

So I can blog, but how am I doing with other social media? It's a mixed bag.

Twitter! Yes, I've been actively trying to increase my followers on Twitter.   ( http://www.twitter.com/kckendricks ) It's pretty easy to follow someone and it's easy to post a Tweet. Like blogging, I did resist for awhile but twitter is just blogging for people with ADD. Short bursts on a lot of topics. I can do Twitter.

Facebook! Egads. Facebook. Now that's a challenge for me. I don't know what the heck is going on there and every time I turn around I hear how dangerous it is to be on Facebook.

Pinterest! I love, love, love Pinterest. I've wasted a lot of time looking at bunches of really cool things on Pinterest. I can do Pinterest. I think I have seven or eight boards now. http://www.pinterest.com/kckendricks

Triberr. Oh, dear. Another one. I should do Triberr. It's called a "blog amplification platform" and I do like to blog. Triberr works to promote like subject matter and I blog all over the range of subject matter, not just about the books I write. Does one Tribe not fit all? Apparently not. I've no clue where to even start.

LinkedIn. Just say no to giving up the emails of your associates. Remember it's still a "do unto others" sort of world. You don't pass around my email and I sure as hell won't pass around yours.

Google +. It's on my list of things to add to my life provided I can figure out why.

And all this is just the tip of the iceberg. Type in "social media sites" into any search engine and stand back...

Thinking about all this social media stuff has worn me out and this Luddite needs a nap. I expect the next time you'll hear from me will be on October 26, 2013, for My Sexy Saturday. Hope you'll stop by for that!

Really? Did I have to?

March 3, 2013

It seems I've discovered yet another Internet playground. It wasn't enough to become a blogger. It wasn't enough to tease my brain with Twitter, which I've called blogging on steroids from time-to-time. I thought I'd learned my lesson when I was able to keep the time spent on MySpace, Facebook and Goodreads under control. Boy, was I kidding myself. I've now found PINTEREST!!

This behavior is not conducive to getting some writing done.
