Ian Coulter series now on Kindle Unlimited for a limited time

February 2, 2020

Happy Groundhog Day! This year, good old Phil says it's an early spring. He won't get an argument from me. I do see several green sprouts in the flower beds (I'm sure they're daffodils peeking up).

To celebrate the coming spring, I've put all five of the Ian Coulter series on Kindle Unlimited for a limited time. Yep, they will be on KU until April 30, 2020.

There are five books in the series - Double Deuce, Deuce of Diamonds, Ace Deuce Trey, Circle of Steel, and Steel Wheels. Private investigator Ian Coulter meets undercover agent Rick Mohr and sparks fly - until Rick solves his case and goes back to his life. That's not the end of their relationship, though.

Rick can't move on. He knows he made a mistake walking away from Ian and they reconnect. They may have had a rocky beginning, but working through those trials cemented their relationship.

Ian and Rick are my favorite couple. They do real life. They argue. They sometimes struggle. They love. They make it through a life-shattering event when Rick is wounded. They forgive and they work it out. When friends are threatened, they pool all their resources to keep them safe. Two strong - and headstrong - guys making a life together.

I hope you'll give the Ian Coulter series a read. You won't regret it.

You'll find excerpts and links at https://www.kckendricks.com/AmethystCoveSeries.html .
Or you can go straight to my author page at Amazon

I think you'll enjoy Ian and Rick's journey.

PS. To my dearly missed buddy the late Chris Grover - yes, I put books on KU. Please don't hold it against me.

The Back Stairs for this week's Midweek Tease

December 5, 2018
**Updated 4/2/21 - the MidWeek Tease blog hop has been discontinued.**

Welcome to this week's MidWeek Tease! Be sure to check out all the participating blogs by using the linky list located at midweektease.blogspot.com.

I've been walking a jagged path lately but that's life (or so I tell myself). Today seemed like the day to wave at everyone and let y'all know I'm still lurking about, writing when I can and grousing about it when I can't. Just ask the spousal unit. He'll say I don't "grouse" about not having the opportunity to write, I flat out bitch about it. He should know. He's the individual I bitch at because he's the one sucking away my time. Please keep him in your prayers that his surgery on December 14 is completely successful. But I digress...

Today for the MidWeek Tease I have an excerpt from The Back Stairs that has never been shared anywhere. Fallon has been suspicious of Sundown even as they've become lovers. In this moment he realizes just how different Sundown really is.

Enjoy!

First thing in the morning, I planned to have a long talk with my partner, then with the captain. I needed a break. Maybe I could wrangle a week off to rest and regroup, and get my head screwed back on. I was going to fuck up this investigation because I was too tired to focus. But for right now, I had to look alive and keep Juny from seeing something was wrong. I took a deep breath. A strong hand squeezed my shoulder.

“Do you need help getting up?”

I raised my head at the familiar voice, and the hand swam into focus in front of my face. I accepted his offer and he hauled me to my feet. Sundown was strong for such a slender man.

“What the hell are you doing here, Sundown? I told you to stay put.” I searched his face for some clue of why he’d followed me. The urgency in him was palpable as he gripped my wrist.

“I can help, but you must trust me.”

“How can you help? You weren’t here. You couldn’t have witnessed anything.” My heart dropped to my feet. “Do you know this victim, too?”

“I’ve seen him around. He was a runaway, like Michael, only this boy was troubled. I think he did not care for his life and probably welcomed death.”

My stomach churned. “Not like this he wouldn’t, Sundown. No one would.”

“No, you’re right. Time is precious.” He tugged on my sleeve. “Fallon, will you trust me?”

I frowned at him. He kept asking me to trust him, and I didn’t know how to do it yet. “What are you going to do?”

Sundown looked worried. “You’ve got to pay attention to the dog. He’s got something to show you.”
What the fuck? “The dog has to show me something? Why the dog?”

“He has to show you because no one can question him.” His scent and heat washed over me as he stepped closer and lowered his voice. “I beg you, Fallon. Do this.”

Sundown released my wrist and backed into the shadows before I could draw a breath to argue. Behind me, Juny yelled for me, calling me to come see something he’d found. I rolled my shoulders and tried to get my mind back on my work, but my brain refused. I yelled at Juny to take a chill pill. He shouted a few obscenities at me, but I didn’t hear all of it. The dog was back, his green eyes glowing at me.

No way. No fucking way.

The strangest notion I ever had in my life teased the fringes of my sanity.

Think, asshole. When have you ever seen a dog with green eyes?

No, I hadn’t, ever. Dogs don’t have green eyes.

Sundown does.

The world took a nasty dip in front of me, tilting me sideways before it suddenly righted itself. The dog whined. I hunkered down, but my shaking thighs betrayed me and I ended up with my knees on the ground to maintain my balance. I held out my hand to him and whispered what should have been complete and utter nonsense.

“Sundown?”

The dog rushed me. I grabbed at him to keep from falling over. His tail wagged furiously as he licked my face while I held on to his wiggling body in a vain attempt to get him to calm down. My vision hazed around the edges, and for a split second I feared I was about to black out. What had Sundown done to me at his apartment? He spoke of burning herbs. Had it been something with properties similar to marijuana? Was I fucking high?

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and turned my focus inward. I experienced no dizziness, no urge for sleep. My heart pounded abnormally fast—and hard—but that was all. No strange aftertaste when I blew my breath out. No munchies, either. I was much too sober to believe what I did. I opened my eyes and stared at the dog. With great care, he grasped my wrist with a mouth full of very sharp teeth and tugged.

Heaven help me.

“Okay. Let go of me, and I’ll follow you.”

He released me and raced away. I stared into the blackness, unable to fully comprehend what I knew was true.

How could I possibly believe Sundown could change… I needed help. Too many crime scenes. Too many mutilated bodies. Years of being on the front line and seeing the carnage that mankind inflicted upon itself had won. I’d snapped. No vacation could fix me now.

ABOUT THE BACK STAIRS:

Fallon Roxbury has a nose for trouble and the uncanny ability for landing in the middle of it the moment he finds it. While investigating the gruesome murder of a young male prostitute in the red-light district, Fallon gets a whiff of something very strange. Forensics has unidentified hairs. Very unidentified hairs, like nothing in any of the textbooks. Following a tip from a person of interest, Fallon meets Sundown, an apparent hustler who knows a lot more than he will admit.

Getting personally involved with Sundown breaks every rule in the police manual, and in Fallon’s own personal code. Sundown is like a drug, and Fallon can’t stop at just one hit. When Sundown is forced to reveal the truth, Fallon’s world is turned upside down, and he’s left with only two options: check himself in for psychiatric evaluation, or accept a new reality with a strange shift.

Shapeshifters, that is.

My Sexy Saturday - The Right Brew

July 30, 2016

When I wrote the first story set in Marionville, A Hard Habit to Break, I knew I had the foundation for a trilogy. What I didn't know at the time was that in Marionville, all things are possible. I've written science fiction under another name and enjoyed creating my own universe. Marionville is much the same thing. It's my town. I know its highways and byways, its restaurants and its nightclubs. And while Marionville is small town enough that our heroes are acquainted with each other, every man deserves his own story be told. This might take awhile!

Today for My Sexy Saturday #152, I've gone back to Marionville and its newest resident, Hollis, and its newest business - The Right Brew microbrewery.

Here are seven sexy paragraphs from The Right Brew you won't find anywhere else. Enjoy!

I stared at the old brass bed. “I bet that makes a lot of noise.”

A slow smile spread across his features. “It does, but no one else is around to hear it.” He stepped in front of me and laid his palm flat against the center of my chest. “I even changed the sheets for you.”

Really? That was a sure sign tonight was equally important to him. I wrapped my fingers around his and brought his knuckles to my lips. I watched his eyes widen in surprise and then darken with longing.

“Take your shirt off, Caleb.”

He grinned and yanked his shirt over his head without opening the little pearl snaps. I noted the lean but well-defined muscles. I bet his workout was in the brewery, and not the gym.

I laughed softly and peeled out of my shirt the same way. He perched on the edge of the bed and patted the spot beside him before toeing off his shoes.

I moved to stand in front of him, between his knees. I put my hands on his shoulders and he grasped my hips and unbalanced me until I fell me to the mattress. He kissed me again, unhurried as he fumbled getting my belt undone. I surged up and away. With an easy roll, he was on his feet to unsnap his jeans. He let them drop and then stepped out of them. I grinned at the large bulge his black hip-hugger underwear couldn’t contain.

Hollis Milnor didn’t think twice about moving to Marionville. His ailing cousin needed his help running his nightclub, Frolic, and Hollis needed to put some space between himself and an ex-boyfriend determined to make his life miserable. Management skills he has. Experience running a nightclub, not so much, but he’s a quick learner.

Caleb Brewer is a steady, hard-working man establishing a microbrewery. He’s got a great product and demand for it is growing. When a new manager takes over the hottest nightclub in Marionville, Caleb is determined to maintain his prior arrangements.

What starts out as business quickly heats up the summer nights. Hollis hesitates, reluctant to step over the legal line. Caleb isn’t just a vendor. He works part-time at the nightclub. Becoming involved puts them both in murky waters, waters that become crystal clear when the past catches up with Hollis and puts everyone he loves in danger.

SABRE by KC Kendricks

May 14, 2016

SABRE is now available!

Gay romance/suspense/spy games

Sam Breeden is a highly skilled operative known as SABRE. Genetically engineered, Sam is very good at what he does, but his propensity to act on the truth, and not his orders, continually lands him on the bad side of his handlers. When he’s instructed to find, and eliminate, a mythical assassin known only as Absinthe, Sam quickly becomes aware all is not as it seems. He suspects the evidence against Absinthe was planted and goes against his orders.

The man called Absinthe holds the key to Sam’s past. He inserts himself into Sam’s orbit – and bed – with the intent to lead Sam to the truth. He’s not guilty of the crime, but he’s far from innocent. He knows Sam’s been played by his agency and the path to their survival means walking a crooked line.

Finding the truth isn’t easy, and believing it is even harder. Sam and Absinthe make a desperate play for freedom, because if they can’t get free, they can never be together.

EXCERPT

And that’s when it hit me.

“It was you in DC, in the Romp Club. You kept buying me shots and we ended up in my hotel room. You slipped me a roofie, you bastard.” I propped up on an elbow. “And me without my gun.”

He held his hands up in a surrendering gesture. “Sorry about the Rohypnol. I’m not armed, Sam. I mean you no harm.” He rolled to his knees and fell back against the plush pillows. I joined him.

“So why target me? You’re that interested in my ten-inch cock?”

He shook his head. “Ten inch? Now who’s having sexual fantasies? I’m interested in Frederick Milan.”

“I find it very curious you know that name. Pick up the phone and call room service. I want a big pitcher of iced tea.”

He leaned back. “And let them all know you’re a Yank? Make the call yourself, mate.”

I rolled my eyes. “Then get anything cold and refreshing. Sparkling water. How’s that?”

He picked up the hotel phone and placed my request - along with two steak dinners and two bottles of a pricey Cabernet. He set the receiver back in the cradle and turned to me.

“Are you finished watching me, Sam?”

“Nope, so get used to it. Frederick Milan. Talk, now.”

“Milan was collateral damage.” He looked worried. “Melvin McCune wants you out of the way.”

If he thought McCune wanting me to disappear was news to me, he was sadly mistaken. “Yeah? So? Who do you work for? What the hell is your name, anyway?”

“All in due time. Milan stumbled upon some records that were supposedly destroyed. And you can call me ‘Darling’.”

I snorted. “Well, ‘Darling’, I’m very interested in where you’re getting your information.”

“I just bet you are, SABRE.”

We stared at each other, and not with lustful longing or budding friendship. But maybe there was a bit of grudging respect floating between us.

“Look, ‘Darling’. I know you can’t tip your hand too far. Neither can I. You’re correct.  I’ve got a problem with McCune. But I want to know why and how a middle-aged banker, a do-gooder, ends up dead in the middle of what might be a mob hit.”

That got his attention. “Mob hit? How do you figure?”

“You said look into Hawkes. I did. He’s got Chicago political connections and that could indicate organized crime. If you can believe anything on the Internet, that is.” I didn’t tell him I likely had more information waiting. Deborah had surely dumped whatever she’d found on my server by now.

He scratched his chin. “The only dot that connects here is Hawkes is the one who wants Milan’s death investigated. He called McCune and invited the NSCA to become involved, being Milan is an American citizen, and all.”

I stretched, arching my back and wiggling my toes. “Darling” was correct, but I sensed something more sinister at work. I beat my pillow to fluff it. “And Hawkes is Sinope, something the Internet doesn’t know. He’d have the clout to have Milan silenced and to make any evidence implicating himself vanish. So why would he call the NSCA if he’s implicated in anything? That’s a hanging dot for me. It doesn’t connect based on what little we know.”

“So we really need to know what Milan was doing.”

I stared at him again. “We? We? Who’s ‘we’?”

“Darling” looked out the window. “London’s nice, but I like Paris. City of Light and all that.”

I stood, stepped out of my jeans, and draped them over a chair. I either had to avail myself of the laundry service or have some new clothes delivered.

“Darling, I’m not fond of Paris. I killed man there.”

I was surprised by the compassion in his blue eyes. “I know it was self-defense.”

How much about me did he know? Did he know I still had nightmares about what had happened in Paris? I shook my head.

“It doesn’t matter that he pulled a gun and got off a shot at me. There was a truth to learn and I failed.
He couldn’t tell me after I put him down.”

“You won’t fail this time. You’ve got me on your side.”

Inexplicably, his words buoyed my spirit. I didn’t want him to see that in me so I rolled my eyes at him. “Why am I not reassured?”
