Sunday somethings (ramblings, actually)

October 30, 2016
***Updated 4/9/21 - All Romance eBooks closed on December 31, 2016. Where There's Smoke is available at AmazoniTunesBarnes & Noble, and other online booksellers.**

I'm procrastinating. It's October 30th, and I'm waiting for the mercury to hit 70F. On October 30th. And it's going to. I do love Indian summer. Can I still call it that? Deuce knows there's a walk in his immediate future. He's watching my every move. It might be a good day to set up his tunnel, too. He'll like that.

Deuce and I have to leave soon because there's fucking football coming on at 9:30 AM this morning.

Good news! Where There's Smoke is up to #5 on the All Romance eBook bestseller list. I think the highest I'd ever made it, before today, was #7 with SABRE. ARE is having a Halloween sale. Maybe that'll drive it on up the list. That would be cool. (see update below)

We went out to dinner with the cousins yesterday. It was good to see them, but the venue was far too noisy for conversation. Either we can't seem to pick a quick place or the public at large has taken to shouting. The food was good, though. Hickory Bridge, Fairfield PA. Reservations are a must.

A good witch, Spiderman, and Thor knocked on my door last night after we returned home. Poor Deuce! This is his first Halloween. He didn't know what the heck was going on at first. Then I'm sure he recognized Spiderman as part of our youngest generation from across the creek.

I'm pondering what to do about Thanksgiving. With my mother in a care facility, it feels a bit tricky. She's not a prisoner there - my stepfather takes her somewhere every day. It's the taking her back for the night that's the problem. The place is nice, like a very expensive hotel with night time care, which we learned the hard way my eighty-year-old stepfather can't provide. Mom's taken to refusing to get out of the car. One of the staffers picks her up with ease and puts her in a wheelchair. She doesn't like either.

I love it when my cell phone plays Lovely Linda by Paul McCartney. I need to call my cousin back about the Maryland Christmas Show, a big craft fair that will be in Frederick, Maryland the last two weekends in November. Admission is up to $8. Parking is $2. Do you think they realize this is why a lot of people are looking and not buying? Apparently not. I don't buy. I get ideas and make things myself. My honey and I are very handy that way.

I bowled a 238 game Friday night. I had a dollar in the pot, too. I might get lucky and win the money on that game. I won't know until this coming Friday.

Social commentary? Figure this one out. I keep hearing Jimi Hendrix sing part of the last verse of All Along the Watchtower:
Outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl.

And a thought to stop on: I really must get better about doing stretching exercises.

Happy Sunday!

K is for Kentucky 98 Proof (and KC)

April 12, 2014
**updated 4/2/21 - the links to the Seductive Studs & Sirens blog hop have been disabled**

2014 A to Z Blogging Challenge
A Rural Life
Day 11

K is for Kentucky 98 Proof

Welcome to Between the Keys! Today’s blog is doing double duty. I’m participating in the A to Z Blogging Challenge which happens in April, and I'm also taking part in the Seductive Studs & Sirens Blog Hop. Luckily, I have a book with a K title so it’s going to work out for me today. Next Saturday is another story. The A to Z will be on Q and that’s going to be problematic for both Seductive Studs & Sirens and My Sexy Saturday if the latter is back from hiatus. We’ll have to wait and see how creative I can be - or not.

For those of you unfamiliar with the A to Z Challenge, it’s twenty six blogs in twenty six days working the alphabet from A to Z. You post every day in April except for Sundays unless April 1 falls on a Sunday that year. It IS a challenge. Check out the survivor badges along the left side of the blog. They were EARNED, not just handed out.

For those of you unfamiliar with Seductive Studs & Sirens, every Saturday a group of writers post a short excerpt from a story for your enjoyment. The list of participants is below. It’s a great way to connect with other authors and find some great stories.

That’s it in a nutshell, so here is a short excerpt from Kentucky 98 Proof. Bragging a bit, this book was the #1 bestseller at Amber Allure in its debut month of August 2013 and a certified All Romance eBook bestseller in September 2013. Needless to say, I was thrilled!

Enjoy!

Vic rolled his eyes and trudged into the bathroom. Boone followed, equally unwilling but probably for different reasons. He didn’t want to be in the small space with Vic. Their hips and shoulders would rub. He’d have to breathe in Vic’s scent. And worst of all he’d have to touch Vic and risk making a fool of himself. He took a deep breath and angled Vic’s chin up to the light and brushed the dark, damp hair off the man’s forehead.
He whistled softly as he gently ran his fingertips over the solid bump. “That’s going to be one fancy bruise.”

“I guess I’ll have to get a hat.”

Boone snorted as he tipped Vic’s chin to another angle. “Yeah. Call yourself Kentucky Jones. The skin doesn’t appear to be broken. Look me in the eye.”

“What?”

Boone tapped Vic’s chin and released him. “You’re pupils aren’t dilated. Got any double vision?”

Vic took a deep breath and turned to face him. His hands went to Boone’s hips. “I’ve got visions, but they’re not double unless you want to count the only men in them are you and me.”

Number 1 for the publisher at All Romance eBooks - Kentucky 98 Proof

September 12, 2012

**Note**
Although Amber Quill and All Romance eBooks have both closed, I decided to leave this post up.
After all, Kentucky 98 Proof was the #1 book for Amber Quill for a stretch of time.
Can't change that fact

I'm starting to feel a little sheepish about how well Kentucky 98 Proof is doing. Seriously. First it hit the All Romance eBooks Bestseller list. Then it was a really spiffy 5 Heart review. And now Kentucky 98 Proof is number one for the publisher - Amber Quill Press/Amber Allure - at All Romance eBooks. I had to take a screen capture of it for my files! It's better than pinching myself to make sure I'm awake, you know.

You'd think the follow-up story to this one would prove difficult, but it doesn't really work like that. Kentucky 98 Proof is really the follow-up to Seducing Light, Tango in the Night, Poseidon's Pleasure, The Back Stairs, What You Don't Confess, Double Deuce, Highway Nights, Desert Snow, Doors of Time. These are the books I think are my best works and the ones which set the stage for Kentucky 98 Proof.

And while this has been great fun I'm not losing sight of reality. The next book is submitted and the contract signed. Will it turn out to be a fun ride like Kentucky 98 Proof? Who knows? If it does, I'll enjoy it every bit as much as I've enjoyed this story. If it doesn't, it'll still be a book I'm proud of. I think that's what really matters.

Thanks to everyone who bought a copy of Kentucky 98 Proof!

It's Five Hearts for Kentucky 98 Proof

September 7, 2013

Hearts on Fire Reviews has given Kentucky 98 Proof a 5 Heart rating! My thanks to reviewer Diane for her kind words. In these times of nastiness, it's so very refreshing to get a straightforward book review from someone who actually read the book.

Here's a snippet from the review:

If you like romance, men in uniforms and smart guys, cabin settings and seemingly opposites attracting, you’ll like this story – and there are quite a few hot scenes, as well as straight ahead romantic and funny ones. Great story that I would recommend! - Diane, reviewer

Check out the entire review at http://heartsonfirereviews.com/?p=22867

It's been great fun watching this book take off. Some books do, and some don't, so I think it's important a writer keep it all in perspective. Enjoy the ones that do, and don't angst over the ones that don't. Just tell the story, send it out into the world, and move on to the next one. So I'm enjoying the ride.
