Jagger Davis, JD to his friends, takes a summer sabbatical at picturesque Sandbridge Beach in Virginia to enjoy some sun, surf, sleep, and solitude. Arriving at a rented cottage, JD finds sun and surf, but the cottage next-door houses six fun-loving guys determined to include him in their summer activities. It’s quickly evident JD won’t have time to feel lonely.

Nate Fischer is one of a group of friends who spend every summer at Sandbridge. An IT specialist, Nate’s taking a few weeks off before his next assignment sends him out to sea for months. He introduces himself to the new neighbor and invites JD to the first bonfire of the season.

JD fends off advances from Nate’s roommates as the two men grow close. JD harbors a secret in his past, one he worries Nate won’t accept. When Nate’s job abruptly calls him away, JD realizes his mistake in not giving his summer lover a fair chance. He must convince Nate he’ll be waiting when Nate returns - if Nate still wants him.

A Conversation Between Writers - What did I forget?

September 4, 2015

I used to laugh at my mother and grandmother for forgetting things but it's not amusing. Nor is it amusing my calendar didn't send me the alert on it.

Today I decided I needed a break from caffeine and I can barely keep my eyes open. Someone is going to stroll in here and find me snoring.  - KC Kendricks

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Everyday I too seem to forget to do something. Nothing important, but it gets so annoying. And it's not like I totally forget, it's more like the thought gets pushed to the back of my brain and jumps forward every so often so I remember it at an inopportune time. - Brenda Williamson

A Conversation Between Writers - Cover Obsessions

July 17, 2015

Spanking the Goddess is the last short I have. Everything else falls in the category of 20k or larger. Mostly larger, so you shouldn't get another from me in a while. Now you need to catch up. Here's the cover. Maybe tonight I'll have finished reading the story. This afternoon I'm off to a baseball game. - Brenda Williamson

A Conversation Between Writers - To bike and to garden

April 26, 2015

We were going biking this morning. Then it was cloudy and we thought we'd better not. Then the sun came out so we said okay let's go. Got the bikes loaded and the sun went away. So we thought maybe we'd better go to the C&O tow path since it's closer. So we got in the pickup and headed down the road. Got about four miles, and raindrops hit the windshield. We turned around and came home. Now the sky is blue and sun is shining but we're not trying it again today.

With any luck I'll get the second chapter of the story finished. Did 500 already so it could actually happen :)

~~~~~
How energetic of you. I haven’t ridden a bike in a long time. I dealt with a garden today. Got a love/hate going with mine. All the work should have a good pay off, but sometimes is it worth it. The amount of time it sucks up makes me wish I could just lounge on the sidelines and watch someone else pick the weeds.
P is for Poseidon's Pleasure
The 2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge
Day 16
P is for Poseidon’s Pleasure
Welcome to day sixteen of the 2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge. As today is a Saturday, it's a straight promo day and I'm keeping it short and quick.
Today I have a short excerpt from Poseidon’s Pleasure . Our heroes meet after years apart and Brett recalls the very first time he saw Mark. It's a bittersweet moment.
Enjoy!
* * *
His hand lifted, stretched toward me, then fell to his side. “You look good, Brett. Really good. Like life is treating you right.”
“Thanks. It is, for the most part.” I held my right hand out in that time-honored way of men everywhere. He licked his lips, and I was suddenly twenty-nine and awkward again, wondering why any man would look at me and want to take me to bed. My memory flashed back to a distant, muggy night, the air filled with ozone from approaching lightning.
The first time I saw Mark Matthews he was pinned to a chain link fence by a pack of straight bullies with more than mischief and mayhem on their agenda. The streetlight was bright enough for me to see the terror on his young, bruised face.
I laid on the horn and drove my car right into the fence beside them, not caring in that moment if I hit some of them or not. The mob scattered, and a bloodied and battered boy leaped into my car. He sobbed into his hands the entire drive to my best friend’s apartment. I took him inside and cleaned him up. He was seventeen, and I knew better than to touch him, even to administer some first aid, but I did.
After twenty years, the night he turned eighteen remained burned into my memory.
I stood there, arm extended, praying he’d shake my hand. Just one little touch to make him real for me again, and prove to me I’d existed as a younger man with life and energy. And dreams.
He stared at my hand for the longest time, then he pressed his palm to mine, and quickly let go.
More about Poseidon’s Pleasure
(Book 3 in the Southern Cross series)
Brett Houston triumphed over his life. Raised by an abusive father, Brett sacrificed his personal happiness to keep the ones he loved safe. Ready to make big changes in his life, Brett treats himself to a Caribbean vacation. To his surprise, he ends up at a seaside ball, wearing a G-string and presiding over the festivities as Poseidon, the God of the Sea.
Mark Matthews left behind his hometown, and his first love, to put down roots in California. With vacation time to use, or lose, Mark books a holiday on the island of St. Lucia, unaware of the surprise reunion Fate has waiting for him.
Brett cautiously examines the fractured bonds of the past, while questioning the possibility of a future with Mark. It’s simpler for Mark. He won’t settle for anything less than a future tending to Poseidon’s pleasure.
POSEIDON' PLEASURE is available at Amazon and other fine online booksellers.
E is for Every Day (2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge)
April 6, 2015
Day 5
The 2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge
Many Sundry Things
E is for Every Day
* * * * * *
Sooooo today I have “E is for Every Day.” I’m not sure where that came from or where I should go with it. There’s the obvious platitude that one should live every day to the fullest and so on and so forth, but that doesn’t feel like a match to where the blog title came from. The prevailing writer’s wisdom of writing something every day feels like a better match, but not a perfect one.
Maybe, just maybe, I was thinking that every day brings me one step closer to that magical day when I become a full-time writer. I’ve reached the stage in my life where every move I make, every decision, is based on reaching that goal. The planning for it is exhaustive because I’ll be rather young to leave the work force and a paying job for a vocation that won’t make me rich, but that’s the plan every day.
I have daydreams about it every day.
Yeah, I think that’s my E post. Every day.
Once again this year I have to do a little book promo along the way. You won’t know about my books if I don’t tell you about them, right?
E is for Ellis Banks of Tango in the Night, which is an “author pick” from me.
Jubal Graham is back on the job after a shooter took the life of his long-time partner, and sent him into a coma followed by months of rehab. Determined to have justice, Jubal is focused on finding a killer, not a new romantic entanglement. Ellis Banks, with his smoldering blue eyes and denim-clad swagger is a distraction Jubal can’t afford – or ignore.
Ellis Banks came to Philadelphia to bust a drug operation; one that connects to the same case agency legend Kentuckian Jubal Graham is working. Ellis finds himself drawn to Jubal, but Jubal holds him off. Sure that Jubal is interested, even though he wears his slain lover’s ring, Ellis mounts a determined siege.
Jubal’s surprise at having a suitor develops into a growing affection for Ellis, one clouded with old fears. Fate ripped one lover from his arms, and now Ellis is in the line of fire. Jubal’s courage can protect Ellis, but is it powerful enough to love him?
Tango in the Night is available at the Amber Allure imprint of Amber Quill Press. It's also available as part of the Night Moves paperback.
A Conversation Between Writers - Bed Lures
March 13, 2015
I've been very bad - writing at work on my lunch break! But my story just crested 5K. That makes me happy. I really need to work on that old story, too. Maybe I'll spell off on that tonight. Give my brain time to catch up.
Still no word back on the short story. It's the one that was too short.
I really need a comprehensive list of what I need to do, but if I made one I'd probably get so discouraged I'd put myself to bed and stay there. ~ KC Kendricks
Keep on plugging along. You'll git'er done.
I'm currently downloading my website software into a different computer, since my other one won't display on the monitor. I think it may be the graphics card, but who knows when I'll get around to trying to fix it. Made one attempt this past week and the graphics card won't fit, it has to be a special one from Dell. ~ Brenda Williamson
Hot August Comes for #MSS82
March 7, 2015
**updated 4/2/21**
**The My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop is no longer operating.**
Welcome to the 82nd My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop!! This week our tireless coordinator, Lynn Crain, set the theme with, "kiss me once, and kiss me twice..."
(I remember the old song. Do you?)
This week's seven sexy paragraphs come from my new release, Hot August Comes. Enjoy!
“I got that part. Maybe I’m just a little off stride that you’d come right out and cruise me like that.”
There was enough light that Harrison saw Leo smile. There was an easy humor in his voice as he spoke.
“I never took you to be the shy type.”
It was Harrison’s turn to smile. “Oh, I’m not the least bit shy, and I’ll prove it to you right now.”
Harrison reached out and cupped the back of Leo’s neck, then leaned over and kissed him. The feel of Leo’s lips under his shot a jolt of surprise through him. His heart rate rocketed skyward as he inhaled sharply and jerked away.
Leo blinked at him, then ran his thumb over Harrison’s lower lip. His voice was soft and low. “Well, well, that was unexpected.”
Now what should he do? Deny to Leo he felt the strange energy bouncing between them? He had to. How could he accept the kiss of a stranger tilting his world off-kilter?
A bit about Hot August Comes:
Leo Corbin shook the dust of Westfall off his shoes to pursue opportunities among the bright city lights. When his mother suddenly dies, Leo returns home to settle her estate. His grief at her passing quickly turns to shock at what she left behind and rekindles old questions about the identity of his father.
Harrison Wade stuck by his father to help run the family farm. Life for a gay man in Westfall has limitations, but Harrison knows how to make the best of them. When Leo Corbin returns to town, Harrison’s quiet existence tilts. Leo is the guy who put an end to the high school bullying Harrison endured so many years ago. Harrison quickly discovers his old boyhood crush on Leo has matured into an adult attraction.
As the mercury rises, Harrison and Leo’s friendly buddy arrangement heats up. When hot August comes to Westfall, they discover home is more than where a man hangs his hat. It’s where he gives his heart.
Ranger padded out of the bathroom, toenails clicking softly on the oak floor. Vic pulled his knees to his chest, held his breath, and slid under the water. He could almost float in the tub. He sat up, wiped the water from his eyes, and glared up at the tall man leaning on the doorframe.
“You’re early.”
“You’re not ready.” Boone raised an eyebrow. “But since you’re naked I don’t think I mind much.”
“The washcloth has me covered.”
“Damn. That must be disappointing.”
“It’s a big washcloth.”
Boone snorted. “Wouldn’t cover me.”
Vic flicked water drops at him. “You’re talking yourself into a corner, my friend. You gonna wash my back?” He grinned as the smirk faded from Boone’s face, replaced first by surprise then a glittering interest in his smoky blue gaze.  “Go make yourself useful and check the fire. And close the door.”
The muscles in Boone’s throat worked as he swallowed. “I’d rather climb in the tub with you.”
Six Sentence Sunday: The Back Stairs
September 23, 2012
Welcome to my first Six Sentence Sunday! I chose six sentences from The Back Stairs, which is the first book in the Sundown series. When Fallon tells Sundown he expects Sundown to be nothing but trouble, Fallon has no idea just how much. But he quickly finds out.
Shapeshifters? Really? Fallon didn't believe it either - at first.
From The Back Stairs:
“Carlton’s parents are flying in to claim the body and I need to have answers for them.”
His fingers grazed mine, the gentle touch heating my blood. "I knew you were a good man. I trust you, Fallon. Will you trust me?”
“I trust you to be nothing but trouble.”
