Levi & Stacy - a limited edition

**August 29, 2023

**December 31, 2023 - This special edition is no longer available.

Levi & Stacy

Levi and Stacy hold a special place in the booklist. Shining Victory is written from Stacy's point of view. No One But You is from Levi's. It has long been the plan to write another segment from Stacy's pov, but fear of mucking it up has thus far prevailed.
Do not abandon hope. It may yet happen.

Shining Victory for this WWW blog hop

July 8, 2017

I'm participating today in the Weekend Writing Warriors blog hop! WWW is a weekly blog hop where authors post eight to ten sentences from a published work or a work in progress. Blog posts are to go live between noon Saturday and 9:00 AM Sunday. It's a great way to meet new authors and expand networks. Be sure to visit the WEWRIWA page to check out all the Weekend Writing Warriors blogs. Click here to go to the home page.  It's good stuff. Don't miss out.

This week, I have a short excerpt from Shining Victory, which was made available this past week. Enjoy!
*_*_*_*

“Call me old again, and I’ll show you what old can do.”

Levi licked his lips, taunting me. “So show me…old man.”

I pulled his lips to mine, until they almost touched. “You’re too eager,” I whispered.

His hand cupped my aching balls as his thumb ran across my bulging zipper.

“Eager? Me? You’ve got some nerve calling me eager.”

Quick as lightning, his hand snaked down the front of my jeans…

Shining Victory and No One But You

July 6, 2017

Levi and Stacy hold a special place in my booklist. After I wrote their story from Stacy's point of view, I knew I had to continue it from Levi's in No One But You. I love the way the set turned out. I really should do that for a few other couples.

I'm very pleased to make Shining Victory and No One But You available again.

NO ONE BUT YOU

Lovers Stacy James and Levi Wright keep their relationship hot and spicy by enjoying the little things in life. Levi welcomes Stacy home from a business trip by delighting his partner with a quick trick in the men’s room of a local pool hall.  An offhand comment by a stranger cools Stacy’s ardor, and sets in motion a chain reaction that rocks the very foundation of Levi’s world. He’s never cheated on Stacy, but Stacy has sudden doubts.

On his own, Levi is tested in his discoveries – about Stacy, their relationship, and about the kind of man he wants to be. One thing he knows for certain. He’s not losing Stacy over a careless whisper that isn’t true, but will the only man he’ll ever love forgive his angry words?

Stacy made the worst mistake of his life telling his lover to find another place to sleep. Levi might be younger, but he’s a man, with a man’s pride. Stacy draws on all his experience to walk a road full of detours and pitfalls to meet Levi halfway, and bring him home. Because for Stacy, there’s no one but Levi.

Two new covers for Levi & Stacy

June 5, 2016

Shining Victory is the third story I published as KC Kendricks. It quickly spun off a sequel, No One But You. Stacy and Levi are special characters. Stacy is a wounded man, and it takes a brash younger man to put the last of his demons to rest.

For years now I've thought about giving Levi and Stacy another story but I worry I won't do them justice. But if I've learned one thing in life, it's never say never. It may yet happen.

Without any more blathering from the author, here's the new cover reveal for Shining Victory and No One But You. The books will be available later this year. Stay tuned.

No One But You by KC Kendricks

June 27, 2015
** Updated 4/2/21 - My Sexy Saturday was a weekly blog by a group of writing joining together for promotion. It ended in 2017.***

"No one but you." Who doesn't love to hear those words whispered in their ear?

Welcome to My Sexy Saturday #98! We're talking about sexy men today and Levi and Stacy are one of my very best sexy couples. Their story began in Shining Victory from Stacy's point of view and continues in No One But You from Levi's point of view. I've always wanted to go back and tell the next part of their story once again from Stacy's viewpoint. I should put that on my To Do List!

Here are seven paragraphs from No One But You. Enjoy!
_*_*_*_*_*_

I raised my hands skyward and rolled my eyes. “God save me. He thinks you’re cute, too. I told him you’re hung like a horse and the whole thing is mine. Now don’t force me to have to snip off both your dicks.”

“Ouch.” He laughed softly. The old, cocky Stacy grinned. “He’s watching. You gonna kiss me?”

I backed him against the pickup, thigh-to-thigh and pelvis-to-pelvis. My cock started to swell. The man always had that effect on me. “You’re too eager, Stacy James.”

“You’ve got some nerve, calling me eager.”

My mouth slanted across his. Stacy’s lips opened; his tongue licked into mine. I pressed closer, wanting to crawl inside his skin with him. He relaxed in my arms, and my hips surged forward. Stacy broke off the kiss, his hands steady on my ribs.

“Whoa, lover. Last night not enough to hold you over?”

“I never get enough of you. I keep telling you that.”

V is for Variety

April 25, 2015
Day 22

The 2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge
Many Sundry Things

V is for Variety

*_*_*_*_*_*

Someone once said, and has now been quoted endlessly, that “variety is the spice of life.” That may be true, but sometimes one can have a bit too much spice in the dish and muddle the flavors. Variety, to the writer, can be a double-edged sword.

Most writers excel at a particular type of story but that doesn’t mean they don’t yearn to expand into other genres. As KC Kendricks, I write primarily contemporary gay romance. Yes, I touch the fringes of the paranormal with Sundown and Fallon, but my little bratty shapeshifter lives in modern times. I’ve been very successful in contemporary gay romance, but I’d like a little variety from time-to-time. I’d like to build a world with a honking big, badass spaceship and go fly around the galaxy every now and again. The double-edged sword part of that is would my readers come with me? You know, those readers who only read contemporary gay romance. How would they feel about a little variety?

So that’s a question I ponder. How much variety is just enough? How much variety is too much? One of the accepted rules of writing is if you want to write in a variety of genres, you need more than one pen name. I certainly agree with this if you want to write traditional heterosexual romance, gay romance, and something like inspirational stories.

But what if my romantic leads are two adventurous males roaming the area out around Orion’s belt and firing photon torpedoes at the bad aliens to save the good aliens? It’s still romantic gay fiction, isn’t it?

Variety. Just like readers who enjoy a diverse assortment of stories, perhaps it’s time for the writer to expand her range. It might be a good thing to offer a more varied body of work to readers. I’ll have to think on that.

No One But You by KC Kendricks and My Sexy Saturday

February 22, 2014
**updated 4/2/21 - the My Sexy Saturday blog hop is no longer operational**

Welcome to another My Sexy Saturday here at Between the Keys.

This week, I've got to give everyone a big head's up.  If you're offended by sex, read no farther. Just click away. There's some man on man action ahead this week.

The setup - Our lovers just spent a week apart while one was on a business trip. Stacy comes home early with the intention of treating Levi to a hot night in a motel to spice things up. He meets Levi at their favorite billiards and the next thing you know.....

_*_*_*_

It didn’t take long. A week without him, the surprise of him being here waiting on me for this little bit of action, had both of us primed. I pressed back, he shifted his angle, and my world burst into white-hot flame as I came in his hand. He was with me, his release scalding and wet, beginning as mine ended. We hung there, pressed tightly together, our breathing returning to normal. I shivered as he carefully withdrew from me, missing his body heat.

I turned, and we wrapped our arms around each other. He nuzzled my neck. “Did you miss me, puppy?”

“I missed you every moment, old man. How ’bout you?”

Stacy kissed me, putting everything he felt for me into it, and I responded in kind. I breathed in his scent like a drowning man, not wanting to let go of him. His forehead came to rest on mine. “You know I did. I love you more than life, Levi.”

A lump formed in my throat, and my voice refused to work. “Stacy…”

“Hey, don’t get all emotional on me,” he whispered in my ear, then he cleared his throat. Twice.

I hugged him even tighter. “Let’s take this home so we can do it all over again.”

It's a "Shining Victory" for this week's My Sexy Saturday (KC Kendricks)

November 30, 2013
**Updated 4/2/21 - the My Sexy Saturday blog hop has been discontinued.**

Levi Wright. How does one define Levi? Young? Brash? Eager? Talented? Determined? Levi is all those things, but it's all tempered by the fact he's simply a good person. Not that Stacy James saw all that at first glance. What Stacy saw was a bit of himself when he was a younger man. For this My Sexy Saturday, here are seven sexy paragraphs from Shining Victory -  because a who doesn't want a white knight to come to the rescue? (Maybe stubborn Levi!)

= = = = =

Mobile, agile and hostile summed up my first impression of the young man who made a running leap and glided across the hood of a 1967 Camaro on denim-clad knees. He landed on the other side of the car—on his feet—and went nose-to-nose with a man half again his size who’d dared to cast aspersions on his sexuality.

The young man stood six feet tall, lanky, with a head full of dark, curly hair, a scruffy three-day beard, and stunning sky-blue eyes framed by the longest black eyelashes I’d ever seen on a man, gay or straight. And he was pissed off past the point of reason.

I admit I don’t like it much when people refer to me as a “fag” either, but with age comes smarts, or so they say. I’d have ignored the beer-bellied redneck and walked on. But it’s true; testosterone poisoning is a malady of youth. I used to have it myself, and counted myself lucky it had passed. For the most part, anyway…This young man looked to have a bad case of twenty-something and hormones.

I set my soda down a safe distance from the imminent fisticuffs and prepared to save the young man from having his beautiful, perfectly straight nose take on a different shape—that of the other fellow’s fist.

He failed to appreciate my efforts, fixing me with an angry blue gaze that drilled its way straight to my groin as I stepped between them. Good God, what incredible eyes.

“Fuck off, old man!”

The little puppy called me old. I resented that remark, but let it slide for the greater good of the moment.

V is for Victory (series)

Day 22
April 25, 2013,

**Updated 6/26/17**
**Updated 4/10/21 - The Victory Series paperback is out of print.**

2013 A to Z Blogging Challenge

It's All About the Books

Welcome to the final days of the 2013 A to Z Blogging Challenge, and V is for Victory and The Victory Series, which we’ll get to in a moment, but mostly it’s pure personal victory.

Everyone likes to win. Win the game, win the guy, win the Powerball lottery…. I need a moment to focus on the numbers.....…. Whether it’s public or private, winning is, on the whole, considered a good thing. I happen to think private victories are much sweeter than public ones.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate the big blowout celebrations because I do. It’s great fun to join a group and whoop it up! I do it when the opportunity arises. But in my day-to-day life, I find savoring the small victories to be more rewarding.

Those small victories are celebrated in The Victory Series. A man comes out. A father is accepted by his son. Cancer is beaten. A man risks his heart. A life is rebuilt. Parents embrace a son. Love wins the day. These are victories that matter.

And for me, the victory was that of writing my first stories in a genre I loved to read. There’s something a little special about those stories because of it. I was feeling my way, much the same as my characters, and I shared in their victories as they created mine because writing is a symbiotic relationship between author and character.

So here’s a bit about The Victory Series. If you haven’t read it, I hope you will. And if you’ve read it, I hope you’ll re-read it and experience the victory love brings again.

The Victory Series - Book Trailer

With the closing of Amber Quill Press on March 31, 2016, this blog post is woefully out of date. I had fun making the video and hate to delete it.

******
Rainy days are best spent curled up with a book - writing a book, in my instance. It wasn't to be, this rainy day. I know of little sadder than a fog-shrouded cemetary in autumn, but supporting a friend is important. After such a morning, I didn't even attempt to advance the current work-in-progress.

Unable to abandon my craft entirely, I turned to something I've not done in many years. I made a book trailer.

The new processor tried to throw me a curve, though. It didn't come with WMP.11 on it. I tried to open some old trailers from a few years ago and throught for a moment I'd time-warped back to the 1960's, or inhaled something really strange...It was easy enough to go snag the upgrade.

It turned out well enough, and reassured me that my memory still works, at least when it comes to all things writing.

So - below is The Victory Series video, YouTube cooperating, that is.

Enjoy!!

EXCERPT

“Can you just let go of your notion that I’m missing out on life? I don’t feel like I am.”

“Okay. But here’s the thing, Levi. I want…”

“Just stop. I love you.”

To my utter shock, Stacy grabbed both my wrists, his powerful grip tight enough to bruise. His gaze bored into mine, freezing me cold.

“You stop, Levi. You listen, just this once. You’re so afraid I’ll be pissed if I see you get a hard-on for some other guy, you run from me when I want to talk about it. Do you think that in five years I’ve never seen another man that gave me a little tingle? It happens to everyone, lover. It’s not something to be ashamed of.”

My voice didn’t want to work. “I’m not you.”

“No, you’re not. I’ve never cheated on you, Levi.” He looked at me for the longest moments of my life, his eyes gone black with some emotion I had no name for.

I knew. I knew.

"I heard what the bartender said the other night. You need to know that if it ever happens, and you trick some guy, you don’t need to keep it from me. I
expect you to first, be safe, and second, to tell me so we can be more careful.”

Ice water tossed in my face would not have chilled me more than his words.
"What the fuck is going on here, Stacy? I've never cheated on you. Never. And
I'm not starting now."

“Levi, we've been together a long time, and as a couple, we've enjoyed unprotected sex for quite a while now. Do I need to be concerned?"

A fine trembling seized my body. This conversation was out of control, the potential for disaster increasing by the second. My stomach clenched in on itself until I fought back the dry heaves. The world spiraled around me, going black at the edges. I broke free of his hands.

"I love you. I never cheat on you. And yet you sit there and ask me if it's possible I could have given you the clap - or something worse? Maybe I should be the one worrying! And you have to do it here? You motherfucker! I have to go in there and work!" I choked, unable to breathe. "I never…"

Stacy's arms came around me. I shoved him away, holding him at bay. The words came as I managed a deep breath. Horrible words that I couldn’t stop from pouring out of me in my anger and pain that he didn’t know me well enough to believe how much I loved him.

“Why don’t you go get a fucking blood test since you can’t trust me! Now you listen to me. You decide whether or not you love me enough to have me hang around, because if I’ve gotten a little old for you, you should tell me. I’ll step aside so you can go find yourself another sixteen year old!”

He drew back like I’d struck him, which I had. I’d lashed out, hitting him with the most damaging words I owned. He’d been falsely accused of having sex with a sixteen-year-old boy when he was twenty. The boy had lied – Stacy hadn’t touched him – but the accusation had almost ruined Stacy’s life. The pain lingered, and I, who loved him so much, knew the wound lingered in him, unhealed at its deepest point.

And I used it against him.

I reached for him and this time he batted my hands away.

“I’m sorry, Stace. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean that.”

“You said it, so you did mean it. Now get out of the car. I can’t be with you right now.”

My stomach roiled. “Stacy, please. We need to go back home and talk this out.”
He refused to look at me. The cold rage in his voice didn’t completely disguise the hurt.

“No, we don’t. Going home won’t fix this, Levi. I need some time alone. Do us both a favor and find someplace else to sleep.”

Dammit Jim! I'm a writer! Not a reviewer!

Mentioning I planned to read a fellow author's book had an unsuspected consequence. Liking the Steve Earle song, "Copperhead Road," I wanted to read the book by the same title by TD McKinney and Terry Wylis. When one of the authors commented they'd like to know what I thought about the book, okay, I PANICKED.

What if I didn't like it? What if it tanked? What if I couldn't find one good thing to say about it?

DAMMIT JIM!!! I'M A WRITER NOT A REVIEWER!!!!

Sorry. Star Trek moment...

Writer's Angst 102.

Well. I liked the story. It most definitely did NOT tank. I can think of more than one good thing to say about it. Seriously. It's not like anyone is twisting my arm here, you know. It's not like anyone can FORCE me to stay up until midnight to finish a book.

But, I'm not a reviewer. I can't take a point and pick it raw, and I wouldn't anyway. If I didn't like it, I'd just move on without comment. Always better to do that than to say you didn't like a story. That's more than professional courtesy, it's common courtesy. And being from the South, not being courteous about someone elses work would be viewed as simply common.

I read a story to ENJOY it and I enjoyed this story. Getting a second chance to be with the person you love is a favorite theme of mine. To try and "speak" in reviewer, the plot was well thought out, the relationship between the two leads was tender and caring (and sexy as hell)with just the right about of getting together jitters, the writing was well paced, and the story backdrop was vivid and descriptive.

Being a simple kinda girl, let me say simply - GOOD BOOK!!!GOOD JOB!!!

Whew. That wasn't so bad, after all.

The best note from a reader, and a few lesser reviews

February 16, 2009
**updated 6/26/17, 4/3/21**

I've gotten several reviews lately, ones I'll share in a moment, but by far the best review came in the form of a reader from Montreal, Canada, who has already finished her copy of A Taste of Victory. I asked her if I could share her comments and she graciously said, 'yes'. **A Taste of Victory is no longer available.**

I wanted to say that I finished your book. It was so nice to see all three stories together. I'd already read one, but it was nice to get acquainted with Micah and Jonas, and then Levi and Stacy. That Levi, what a firecracker LOL! I enjoyed your book tremendously. The sex is hot, yes, but the stories are interesting and filled with such hope. After reading these, you get a sense that anything is possible. Thank you so much!

Praise from a reader is what matters most. Thank you, Roxanne.

For some other reviews:

Shining Victory
I was a little surprised Romance Junkies reviewed one of my stories. I hope it's a good trend. They're a wee bit PG13 on their list, and considering Shining Victory is a love story about two men.... you get the picture.

Passion's Victory
"The compassion and care just flows from the pages. I really enjoyed Passion's Victory, it touched my emotions on so many levels." - Ley, reviewer, Joyfully Reviewed

Passion's Victory was a Romance Studio 2008 CAPA nominee, and while it didn't get the nod, it shows the strength of the story, and I was very pleased with the honor.

Surrendered Victory
"Surrendered Victory is a great story and a terrific beginning to what could be a very loving relationship." Ley, reviewer, Joyfully Reviewed

Well, Ley, could be a sequel coming for Dalton and Reed some day.

Shining Victory gets two great reviews

December 13, 2008
**links updated 4/10/21**

Shining Victory has gotten two great reviews, so far. A 4.5/5 star review from Jesse Wave, and a 4 Star (that equals 'great' on their scale) from Rainbow Reviews. My thanks to the reviewers for all their kinds words about Shining Victory.

Matthew at Rainbow Reviews said, "Shining Victory by KC Kendricks is terrific, very romantic, passionate, and sexy."

Jesse Wave said a lot - all good, so go read the review :) One thing said did say really meant a lot: "I love this writer in the way her stories end and she doesn't insult the reader's intelligence."

Wow. That's the best thing anyone has ever said about me in a review, to date.

Coming soon! A Taste of Victory. All three Victory stories in one paperback. I don't have a release date yet, but it will be soon :) (This paperback is no longer available.)

So that's my news of the week as I get ready to head out to one of the many Christmas gathering I go to every year.

If I don't make it back before - have a wonderful holiday season!

Shining Victory is now available

November 28, 2008
**updated 6/26/17 and 4/10/21**

m/m contemporary

Stacy James survived a life-shattering accusation to become a successful businessman with a lot to offer a partner. He's finally put his ghosts to rest, and is ready for someone in his life if the right person comes along.

Young and wild, ace mechanic Levi Wright builds engines made for speed. When Levi's volatile temper lands him nose-to-nose with trouble, Stacy ignores his own rules and steps in to save Levi from making a big mistake. But Stacy can't ignore Levi's smoldering sexuality as the younger man then pursues him.

And Levi has made it clear he's out to get his man.

EXCERPT
…He stood still, motionless, as the light from the window formed a sunburst around him. His blue eyes searched my face with silent questions, ones I knew, although I was unsure about the answers. My lips tingled with the memory of his kiss. I reached out and gave his shoulder a light squeeze. The corner of his sensuous mouth twitched into a quirky, lopsided smile.

Low and husky, his voice made me shiver with longing. “You think I bite, Stacy James?”

I trailed my hand down his arm and grasped his wrist, pulling him a step closer. “What if I do, puppy? You don’t know a thing about me.”

The smile on his face widened. His gaze never left mine. “Sure I do. You’re the hottest old man who ever threw a punch to save my ass.”

I reached out with my other hand and tucked my fingers beneath his belt to yank him against me. Heat rolled off him in tiny waves, but the skin on his arm prickled with gooseflesh as I ran my fingertips across it.

“Call me old again, and I’ll show you what old can do.”

Levi licked his lips, taunting me. “So show me…old man.”

I pulled his lips to mine until they almost touched. “You’re too eager,” I whispered.

His hand cupped my aching balls as his thumb ran across my bulging zipper.

“Eager? Me? You’ve got some nerve calling me eager.”

Quick as lightning, his hand snaked down the front of my jeans…

What's new in KC's world? Updates, galore!

November 9, 2008
**page updated 4/3/21**

Suddenly, I seem to have a lot of updates. Oh, they didn't all happen at once, but I've been so immersed in the day job, and writing a story, I wasn't paying proper attention. Now it's time to lift my head, blink at the bright lights, and take in the new scenery around me.

First up! Shining Victory, the third and final story in the Victory series, will be released later this month. Originally, it had been slated for the sixteenth, but the publisher needed to juggle, so Shining Victory took the hit. These things happen in publishing, and if you're an aspiring writer, all you can do is grin and bear it. And if you have a great publisher like Trace, you can threaten him with wet noodles.

Now.... drum roll, please.... All three Victory stories are going to be combined into one great paperback edition! I'm thrilled! That's the 2008 Amber Heat Wave Winner, Surrendered Victory, Passion's Victory, and Shining Victory, all in one paperback - A TASTE OF VICTORY. Yea!!! That should be available sometime in December if all goes well. **6/26/17 update - A Taste of Victory is no longer available.**

And if that's not enough, I signed up for my first Amber PAX, coming in 2009. The theme is rich man, poor man, and as soon as I saw it, I had an idea.

Surrendered Victory and Passion's Victory are now available at online booksellers. I missed that move completely until this past weekend. If you've not opened an account at ARE, you should, and here's why. Let me just step out of the way, first, so no one knocks me down. Okay.... ARE has free reads. And by some rather well-known names, too.

If you need the links to my books at ARE, please visit my website and click on the ARE banners. Now, you know I have to do something to get you to visit my website! (All Romance eBooks closed.)

Finally, when you get the December 2008 edition of Romantic Times Book Reviews, make sure you check out pages 110-111 for the Amber Heat/Amber Allure ad. Yes, Surrendered Victory is there, page 110, down in the corner under your left thumb.

That's my updates for now. Just remember to visit my bookshelf at https://kckendricks.blogspot.com/p/the-bookshelf-of-kc-kendricks-and-rayne.html

Oh, yeah - one more new thing. I joined Twitter. You know, blogging for those with ADD, or ADHD, or CRAFT, or whatever those letters are. www.twitter.com/kckendricks. I'm still figuring it out, but feel free to go do whatever it is you do at Twitter. I'll catch up, sooner or later.

I'll be blogging at the Amber Quill blog on Friday, November 14th, so stop by.

Don't forget to click over to Saturday Evening Romance and bookmark it. Saturday Evening Romance is a blog where you'll find excerpts from a wide range of stories and genres, writers and publishers.

Catch you next time around.
