S is for Schedule

Day 19
April 22, 2016
2016 A to Z Blogging Challenge

I schedule as much as I can, as far ahead as I can. Back in the day, I had a bulky day-planner I carried around in a large pocketbook, but now, thank you God, all I need is my cell phone. And a much smaller handbag.

It was necessary for me to go online and actually count the Google calendars I have. The total surprised me - TEN. I have ten separate, yet shared, calendars. My personal calendar, my honey’s personal calendar, the birthday/anniversary, and the “what’s for dinner” calendar are shared between us. Then I have the day job calendar, a promotions calendar, NASCAR, full moon, holidays, and yes, my own A to Z Blogging Challenge calendar. I suppose it's also time to create a calendar to keep track of my mother and stepfather.

Is it visually bulky to have all those schedules in front of me? Nope. A few clicks and all but the one I want to see will disappear. I do use the day view on my phone and the monthly view on my desktop computer. Only occasionally does any single day get overcrowded with items I need to prioritize to accomplish. It's easy to look at any particular date and know whether or not I can schedule something else for that day.

Keeping my time scheduled keeps me on track, and out of trouble, and that works for me.

S is for Sundown

THE BACK STAIRS (Book 1 of the Sundown Saga)

Fallon Roxbury has a nose for trouble, and the uncanny ability for landing in the middle of it the moment he finds it. While investigating the gruesome murder of a young male prostitute in the red-light district, Fallon gets a whiff of something very strange. Forensics has unidentified hairs. Very unidentified hairs, like nothing in any of the textbooks. Following a tip from a person of interest, Fallon meets Sundown, an apparent hustler who knows a lot more than he will admit.

Getting personally involved with Sundown breaks every rule in the police manual, and in Fallon’s own personal code. Sundown is like a drug, and Fallon can’t stop at just one hit. When Sundown is forced to reveal the truth, Fallon’s world is turned upside down, and he’s left with only two options: check himself in for psychiatric evaluation, or accept a new reality with a strange shift.

Shapeshifters, that is.

F is for Focus

 Day 6
April 7, 2016

Welcome to the 2016 A to Z Blogging Challenge! This is the SIXTH year I’ve participated in the challenge. Yes, it may appear on the surface I’m a glutton for punishment, the truth is I think the A to Z is a lot of fun. Today's blog is about focus.  Thanks for stopping by Between the Keys!

*_*_*_*_*

Attaining focus is not as easy as one would think. Distractions are everywhere and I’m a weak, imperfect writer. What should be easy is often elusive. So what is there to do?

The ability to focus is highly individualized. I can tell you what works for me, but you might need something radically different. I prefer quiet. You might like “white” background noise.

I think short meditation is helpful, but I don’t like to stare at a flame. I like to close my eyes and rest in the dark. You might like to burn a candle and focus on the fire.

Whatever method you employ, learning to focus is a helpful tool. I joked once that all my writing habits are bad ones so you don’t want to immolate me. It’s still true today. I schlep along working on a couple of projects at a time. I know they’ll all get finished. All I need is for one of the stories to strike a spark. When that happens, I get serious.

I shut down the Internet, close the door, turn off the rock and roll music, put the Kindle and the cell phone in the bedroom, and I focus on the story. Having been at this awhile, I can make a lot of headway if blot out the distractions.

None of us can focus for days and days on end. We’re humans. Variety keeps us healthy. But if you can focus, really focus, on the story for a space of time during every writing session, you’ll find it gets easier to do and the rewards reaped will be worth the effort.

Being a writer and talking about time, it seems appropriate to use this blogging opportunity to do a short book promo. Here’s a bit about Fly By Night, book five in the Sundown Saga.

F is for Fly By Night

Lieutenant Fallon Roxbury has a few secrets. His lover Sundown is a shapeshifter, and his entire Clan is under Fallon’s protection. He can usually handle the job but the universe has conspired to align a few unusual events. A body was found at the old rail yard where the shapeshifters once had a village, the clan’s nestlings are about to mature, and his lover and his police partner are suddenly behaving like best friends.

When the clan elders confirm the identity of the murderer, Fallon has more trouble. The suspect is one of the city commissioners and the evidence points to him killing more than once. It’s up to Fallon to find legally admissible evidence to connect his cold case to the more recent murder. He’ll need some specialized help for that, the kind only Sundown can provide.

Bit by bit Fallon gathers evidence, not only about the murders, but about the secrets Sundown has kept. It’s a sobering reminder that looks can be deceiving, and the shapeshifter he shares his life with isn’t human.

*_*_*_*

Because he expected it, I mumbled and grumbled while I shoved the covers to the foot of the bed. He hopped up and finished stripping. My shapeshifter wore a handsome skin for me and displayed a beautiful eight-inch cock to entice me to stimulate his pleasure receptors. Sundown landed beside me, bouncing on the firm mattress.
“You do tire of me. Your penis isn’t hard.”
I guided his hand to the organ in question. It swelled as soon as he touched it. “I’m only pacing myself, darling. Kiss me and see what happens.”
His eyes gleamed with amusement and a moment later his mouth covered mine. I licked his lips and he opened to me. Our arms and legs entangled as I rolled him beneath me and deepened the kiss.
I never knew what course our lovemaking would take until we got there. Today he’d taken me at my word I wanted to feel his lips on me. Sundown trailed kisses down my neck and chest, pausing to suckle at my nips, giving each one just a few seconds and leaving me to hope he’d find his way back and do it again. I reached for my dick and he stopped me, his strong fingers wrapping around my shaft with the perfect amount of pressure to drive me crazy. He stroked me a few times to satisfy my urges before he ran his hands over my backside. With a lazy twist of his lean body, he positioned himself to suck me.
The warmth of his mouth surrounded my dick as his tongue teased around the rim. I soared as he licked the underneath of the head. When he slipped a hand between my thighs to caress my sac, I reached for him.
To touch him. How could I describe touching the flowing silkiness of his skin? I was addicted to the way my fingertips glided over his body and the way his hands flowed over mine. We sought new ways to touch as we moved against each other, saying little save a whisper or a sigh to let the other know we liked something. When he flipped onto his belly and lifted his ass, I rolled to my knees, grasped his hips, and thrust into him. He warmed around my invading dick.

R is for Retirement (2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge)

April 21, 2015
Day 18

The 2015 A to Z Blogging Challenge
Many Sundry Things

R is for Retirement

_*_*_*_

I’m obsessed with retirement. Everything bit of forward planning I do is with retirement in mind.

The word “retirement” is actually a misnomer for many people including myself. I have no intention to “retire” and sit by the side of the road. The goal is a lifestyle change beginning the day I’m eligible to start drawing retirement funds. For me, being blessed with a traditional pension fund through my employer, that’s fifty-nine and a half. I fully intend to live my dream and become a full-time writer and Lady of the Manor. Until then, it’s one day at a time.

In May of 2014, my beloved took off for five days with his siblings while I stayed home to mind the wee beasties who reside with us. Our beloved old dog had health issues that prevented me from allowing him to stay with my parents. Those five days on my own were a slice of heaven on earth. I wrote over twelve thousand words in five days – plus walked, gardened, took care of the house, and visited my parents every day. Those days were a capsule of what I want my “retirement” to be.

May it be so.

Once again this year I have to do a little book promo along the way. You won’t know about my books if I don’t tell you about them, right?

R is for River Walk.

Detective Fallon Roxbury has a big problem. A twenty-year old cold case turned hot threatens to expose his secret - shapeshifters exist and they’re living in Montgomery Circle under his protection. Sundry things for a Sunday

August 3, 2014

Yesterday my family gathered and it was good. All the cousins and kids were there except one who had to work and we certainly forgive his absence. Our young widower came and I don't know if we did well by him by not speaking much of his loss but taking our cues from him, we remained silent to allow him peace in our midst. The women had a new baby coming soon to speculate about and the men spent time in the driveway trash talking each other's new rides.

As chance would have it, my honey's family reunion was also yesterday. He joined us for a meal then traveled to his to play poker with his brothers. It's the first time I've missed his family reunion in twenty years but I think I can manage the absence.

On the writing front, I finally finished the short story. I started it months ago and it sort of floated in and out of focus as I worked on other projects. Because it features a trio of canines, I started calling it "Lick Me." I'm not at all convinced I should title it that but I'm afraid it's going to stick.
With Lick Me finished (oh, God, that title IS going to stick...) it's time to line up the ducks in a neat row. They won't stay there, but I refuse to give up making the attempt to keep things orderly.

Up next is "Ace, Deuce, Trey." Savvy readers will guess correctly that with Deuce in the title it's the third installment in the Ian Coulter's Amethyst Cove series. Ian and Rick's cases overlap when a thief/con artist targets Ian's client.

Sundown, Fallon and Juny have caught a lead on an old cold case. Local history, a crooked politician, a skeleton and a burned body figure into the mix. It could be that the shapeshifting Chal have information dating back to 1850 that can link everything together. Fallon and Juny just have to pry it out of Sundown. It might be easier this time since Sundown is looking for reasons to avoid his tiny doppelganger.

I jumped into a trio of PAXes for next year, too. The first one is about lovers reuniting (a fave theme of almost everyone). The second PAX is called Texas Roundup so you know a cowboy type is going to figure into that one. My story for that one is called "Ride Your Luck." Then I got sideswiped by the third PAX. Three of us authors had our names on this for so long I didn't think it would ever fly but finally two more of the group signed up and the Beachcombers PAX is now a go.

Then there is a story hot off the idea board. I had a different title for this blog and as soon as I typed it in I knew it was perfect for a story. So I changed the blog title to something more mundane.

With all these plot lines, blurbs and character bios to develop, I think it's time to grab a second cup of coffee and a notepad and head for the patio. I really must replace my old laptop (RIP old friend). Maybe the next royalty check can cover a new toy.

May you also enjoy the day doing something you love.

When a pragmatic cop and an alien shapeshifter go on a vacation, rest and relaxation take on a new meaning.

Vacation. I wanted a quiet vacation. A private vacation. We were supposed to discuss how we wanted to spend our week off today, and one thing was non-negotiable – I wanted to be alone with Sundown. I’d already informed him “vacation” was a code word for copious amounts of both sex and sleep, and for that we needed privacy. Taking our time and lingering over breakfast was no longer an option. I had to do something - and fast!
It was time to run like hell before my much-needed vacation vanished like smoke. I threw the covers off and swung my feet out of the bed.
“Sundown, my love, it’s been grand, but I’m getting the fuck outta here.”
With the speed of a talented shapeshifter, Sundown suddenly stood before me, his expression halfway between panic and, well, panic.
“You’re not going anywhere without me, Special Consultant Lieutenant Fallon Roxbury. You will not leave me here alone! Not yet! Not until after the maturation!”
I stared up at him, an idea forming. His black brows drew together in a vee above his emerald green orbs before they shot upward. His strong fingers closed around my arms. Relief poured off him.
“You have a plan!”
I rolled my eyes at him. “Of course I have a plan. I’m a cop. I’m trained to examine all the evidence and choose the best option.”
“Which is…?”
I stood and rested my hands on his shoulders. “Run like the cowards we are. We’re going to get the fuck out of town for a few days starting now, while the caretakers deal with the nestling.”
Czun Dun Nhunfi, the pride of his Clan, went completely still and blinked twice. I knew that look too well. He was telepathic, and he’d just communicated with the Elders. His gaze refocused on mine.
“I will pack my things and stay at your apartment until we can leave.”
I burst out laughing. It was pitiful. One grown man and one grown shapeshifter fleeing a little glowball no bigger than a housecat. But as usual, Sundown had his own sense of logic, which he presented to me.
“You won’t laugh if Ozli decides to look like you. Nor will you like it if the nestling sneaks into our bed while I have you on your back making you howl with pleasure. It could mimic your pose and the sound you make, you know.”
I sobered - fast. “Get your pants on. I’ll help you pack.”
“I thought you’d see it my way, Lieutenant.”

A dusting of snow

January 18, 2014

I missed signing up for today's My Sexy Saturday and the sky did fall - we got a dusting of snow in the overnight hours. My world looks white and clean this morning, but it won't last. The fine powder is already blowing off tree limbs and branches, and in a few hours will be gone. It was pretty to wake up to, though.

It was a hectic week. Getting the new processor up and running has taken a lot longer than I thought. You see, the moment I mentioned I had purchased a new processor, my lovely stepdad had to rush out and get one, too. Guess who he called for help?

Laughing at the man who takes care of your mother, and does it quite well, simply isn't very kind, but I couldn't help myself. I hope that doesn't make me too much of a bad person, but ....okay, I'm laughing again thinking about it so maybe I should move on. He's really a great guy and it's nice to be needed, isn't it?

I'm not sure where the hours will lead me today. The dusting of snow tempts me toward the outdoors for a walk, but since my old dog's arthritic feet don't allow him to travel far, the lure of clean, crisp air is muted. I miss his presence on my walks but I can't bring myself to get a pup. How could I take off on a walk with a young dog knowing it would distress my poor old love to be left behind? I can't do that. So if I go for a solitary walk, I'll sneak out of the house while he's napping.

The fact that part of my day will be spent working on a story goes without saying. I'm down to the very last pages in Fallon and Sundown's latest adventure. A lot of truth about the Chal shapeshifters come to light in this story and it leaves Fallon wondering about his total involvement with his lover. Maybe not a happy thought, but certainly a natural progression to their story.

With that said, it's time to get to it. The cup of coffee I made in our handy-dandy K-cup machine needs a trip to the nuker to be warmed. Being Saturday, I need to check for updates on all the electronic gizmos that crowd my life these days and then I need to get some writing done.

Have a great Saturday!

What's ahead for 2014? Wouldn't it be nice to know?

January 8, 2014

What AM I going to do in 2014?

I did a 2013 year in review blog so it stands to reason I should follow it up with the prerequisite speculation into 2014. The only problem with that is.... well, hell. It's Wednesday. My desk has neat little piles of crap...um...work.. all over it, and I can't think past the fact the copier sounds like it's about to croak. I sure picked a bad time to thing about blogging. But perhaps I digress.

I'm stepping into 2014 with a new processor, which should be interesting. I haven't gotten a new machine in quite a few years and so have skipped over a few operating systems. I suspect I'll be purchasing new software, too. Will it help me write faster? I doubt it since I'll still have my same trusty wireless keyboard that sometimes forgets to register keystrokes. (I mention that in case my editor reads this and starts to get excited about maybe finding an "s" everywhere one is supposed to be. Not gonna happen, I'm afraid. I know myself and that keyboard too well.)

On the writing front, I find I'm not as far along as I'd hoped. I'm working hard on the next Sundown story and making lots of notes for the next Ian Coulter tale, a follow-up to Deuce of Diamonds. Yes, there is some big, let's say BIG news on the horizon, but until the digital ink is on the digital page, I can't share. But you know me after all this time, I can, of course, give you a tease.

The Men of Marionville will also be back in 2014 when a friend of Dylan's moves to town to join him in a business venture. After that, a shopkeeper hires a helper and sparks fly, and somewhere in this mix two guys in the same apartment building meet and find their careers, and lives, are about to intertwine.

So that's five books on top of family, friends, fun and a full-time job. AND let's not forget the 2014 A to Z Blogging Challenge in April. And since I'm stuck on the letter "f" I'll mention that I hope to do better on facebook now that I have a handle on Twitter.

It looks like 2014 is going to be a fantastic and fulfilling year. I hope you'll come along for the read.

My Sexy Saturday: Beneath Dark Stars by KC Kendricks

November 9, 2013
**Updated 4/2/21 - the My Sexy Saturday blog hop has been discontinued.**

Welcome once again to My Sexy Saturday! I hope you like shapeshifters. I know, I know - everyone likes shapeshifters! This week I have seven sexy paragraphs from Beneath Dark Stars, the sequel to The Back Stairs and the second book in the Sundown series.

Czun Dun Nhunfi  - Sundown to you and me since it's easier for us humans to pronounce - isn't your average shapeshifter. His people were brought to earth a thousand years ago as slaves but they freed themselves and prospered. Fast forward to Sundown and Lt. Fallon Roxbury meeting and falling in love and you have a cop trying to do his job and his shapeshifter helping in ways only he can.

I hope you'll enjoy this selection from Beneath Dark Stars.

=====
Sundown handed me a small tumbler of juice and tapped his water glass to mine. I sipped my drink, sputtering at the lack of alcoholic bite. “This is plain cranberry juice!”

He blinked, a slow, lazy lowering and raising of his eyelids that put me in mind of big cat causally watching its prey. “I did not want you to fall asleep too soon.”

The skin on my thighs and belly prickled. My cock pulsed and lengthened. “You’re just full of wants, aren’t you?"

“I have many, yes, and all will be accomplished in the proper time.”

“Boy, that sounds ominous for me, doesn’t it?” Actually, I liked the implications of him thinking about different things to do to me, and so did my dick. My erection completed.

Sundown lifted his glass, drained it, and set it aside. I took a healthy swig of mine and put it on the nightstand to finish later. I lifted the sheet and pointed at my hard on.

"Is it the proper time to do something with the little problem I have right there?"

R is for River Walk

It's All About the Books
2013 A to Z Blogging Challenge

Day 18
April 20, 2013

For this A to Z Blogging Challenge, I’ve been concentrating primarily on the books which leads us straight to R is for River Walk.

River Walk is the third installment in the Sundown series, and it cuts a wide path to delve into the Chal and their shrouded past. What are the Chal? The short answer is they are shapeshifters who have lived on Earth for at least a millennium. Where’d they come from? What are they doing here? Are they a threat to humans? River Walk touches on some of that as Fallon is forced to ask his Chal lover Sundown some hard questions.

Sundown gives up a few of his secrets in River Walk. Some he’s happy to finally be able to share with Fallon - others not so much. River Walk takes a serious turn but in the end shows the strength of Fallon’s relationship with the two most important beings in his life - his lover Sundown and his cop partner, Sgt. Juny Mack.

River Walk also shows the depth of Fallon’s commitment to protect Sundown and his people. Fallon is first and foremost a cop. “Protect and serve” are more than words to him, and he makes some hard choices to protect and serve both the humans and the Chal.

The saga of Fallon and Sundown has endless possibilities for the singular theme that love overcome all odds. I hope you’ll enjoy the series, beginning with The Back Stairs, then Beneath Dark Stars, and then River Walk. With any luck book four, Moon Dances, will be available late 2013 or early 2014.

RIVER WALK

Gay romance with paranormal shift

Book three of the Sundown series

Detective Fallon Roxbury has a big problem. A twenty-year old cold case turned hot threatens to expose his secret - shapeshifters exist and they’re living in Montgomery Circle under his protection. Between a new witness and a group of fanatical alien watchers, Fallon’s scrambling to uphold the law and keep his promises intact. He already knows no power on earth can keep his shapeshifter lover from stepping into the mix.

Sundown has come into his own with his human lover by his side. Fallon is his compass, and shield, as he seeks to keep his Clan united and teach them most humans can be trusted. A catalyst, Sundown is rare among his kind, a descendant of heroes. The status of his Clan rests on him and he’s determined to see his people prosper on this world owned by humans - without the humans knowing shapeshifters walk among them.

Secrets have a way of being exposed. Fallon’s not the only one who knows about Sundown’s kind. A cop used to right and wrong being black and white, Fallon struggles to learn shades of gray. Their relationship is tested as Fallon and Sundown race against the clock to find a kidnapped shapeshifter before the Clan takes matters into their own hands. Because if they fail, Fallon knows his lover will be forced to stand with his people and act against him.

INTRO

“So when do you teach me how to change shape?”

His eyebrows shot up to his hairline. “Fallon, wearing a different skin is not possible for you.” Sundown blinked rapidly, looking more and more shocked. “You would wish it?”

I shook my head. “No, I do not wish it for myself. It’s not normal for a human, Sundown. Come sit on the couch with me.”

I picked up my coffee cup and eased down on the brightly colored scarves covering his sofa. I loved his room with its red and gold brocades, bead curtains, and bright cloths. It made me nostalgic for the days of Woodstock even though I’d not been born until nine months after the Summer of Love changed the world. I lifted my arm and Sundown nestled in against my side.

“Are you angry with me, Fallon?”

Was I? Some inner knowledge assured me he’d not harmed me in any way.

“I’m concerned. That’s different. What happens if I get hurt and some doctor discovers weird little cells dancing around inside me?”

Sundown sipped his coffee. He licked his full lips and took another drink. He was trying to stall me in the hopes I’d ask something else and give him the opportunity to bypass giving me an answer. I wasn’t going to allow him to get away with such a ploy, not this time. I waited. Sundown finally sighed.

“It hasn’t happened yet, Fallon.”

His answer didn’t surprise me. The Chal used every means at their disposal to protect themselves and the clan, whether or not we humans would approve their actions.

“Here’s a news flash for you, lover. Forensic medicine has come a long way in a short time, and it’s possible today’s technology can detect those cells now.”

Sundown sat up straight and twisted to stare at me. I saw Czun Dun Nhunfi, the pride of his clan, before me. His quick intelligence absorbed the information, considered the ramifications, and developed options. I stroked his smooth cheek with my knuckles, and gave his words back to him, gently.

“It hasn’t happened yet, darling. How many humans have you done this to?”

His chin lifted. “You once accused me of using you as my science project. In this, you’re correct. The knowledge handed down to me said it was indeed possible to blend with a human in this way and thus know their thoughts. I needed to know if this were true.”

“You’re avoiding giving me a number, Czun Dun Nhunfi.”

“What was handed down said it was possible for those like me. My ancestors who were catalysts did this to gain knowledge of their captors. It is said without doing this, the Chal could not have escaped slavery on this world thousands of years ago.”

If the folks at SETI only knew how right they were – and how late they were to the game.

F is for Fallon Roxbury (of the Sundown series)

Day 6
The A to Z Blogging Challenge

It's All About the Books

I recently had the opportunity to sit down for a discussion with one of my characters, Fallon Roxbury. Fallon recently returned from taking Sundown on his first-ever vacation since even shapeshifters need a break. We're collaborating on the events that occurred during that vacation for the next Fallon and Sundown story.  This “interview” took place on a Saturday afternoon.

KC Kendricks: Today I’m pleased to have Lieutenant Fallon Roxbury in my study. Thanks for stopping by, Fallon.

Lt. Fallon Roxbury: I know where to come to find good bourbon. (laughs)

KC: Stop it before my readers begin to think I’m an alcoholic or something. Are you really alone today?

FR: Do you see anyone with me?

KC: Well, no, but we both know he could be lurking anywhere.

FR: (rolls eyes) He’d tell you he doesn’t lurk, but I’ll tell you he’s a sneaky sort. But no, Sundown didn’t come with me today. An Elder from a neighboring clan is visiting, so his presence is required in chambers.

KC: I guess being a prince has its drawbacks. Fallon, why don’t you recount for my readers how you met Sundown?

FR: I was called to a crime scene. There was this girl there who told me, very cryptically I might add, that I’d find what I needed at the Montgomery Boarding House. I went there looking for a witness, but she didn’t mean that at all.

KC: So instead of a witness to the crime, you found Sundown wearing a different skin. You said he was sneaky.

FR. He divined I was gay and being female wouldn’t draw my attention, so the next time he appeared to me it was as a slightly younger version of the man you’d see today if he were here. I didn’t understand, at first, what was going on. It was a bit of a scramble to catch up with him.

KC: And then you thought you’d lost your mind.

FR: Wouldn’t you if your new lover told you he was a shapeshifter? You can laugh. It didn’t happen to you.

KC: Okay, okay. But I know you look back on those days and laugh, too. So tell my readers

how you met Juny? I don’t think you ever really told that part of your story.

FR: (laughs) I was a beat cop - a really green beat cop, and Juny was my lieutenant. I’m not sure why, but he took me under his wing. I think we recognized we’d have a friendship to last a lifetime. When he was busted back to sergeant, it was my turn to look out for him.

KC: What did he do to lose rank, anyway?

FR: Repeated insubordination. He called the captain out for being an idiot. I mean, he was right about the man, but you don’t stand up on your desk in the squad room and shout it out in front of God and all witnesses without repercussions, if you know what I mean.

KC: I do. He’s a smart guy, though. Surely he knew what would happen.

FR: He did. But the truth is more important to Juny than rank. So let me ask you a question. How are you doing on Moon Dances? Did I give you enough information about our vacation?

KC: (grins) I’m pretty sure you did. I’ve got it partially written, but I’ve got a June 1 deadline on a story, so I’m working on that one, too. But don’t worry - I wouldn’t miss telling everyone about Sundown learning to drive.

FR: You’d better tell them to get down on their knees and thank the good Lord they weren’t in the car with him. Jesus, what a menace behind the wheel!

KC: (laughing) It can’t be as bad as you said!

FR: No, it was freakin’ worse!

KC: You want a refill on that glass?

FR: Thanks, no. I’ve got to get going. He’s expecting me to bring dinner to the rooftop tonight. I just wanted to stop by and say hello since I was passing by this way.

KC: I’m glad you did! Stop in anytime. There’s always a bottle of Beam kept chilled in the fridge. Bring Sundown with you next time.

FR: I’ll do that. Hey, keep up the good work with the books, okay?

KC: You bet! And you keep catching the bad guys and solving cold cases.

FR: Thanks. We will. (kisses KC’s cheek) Later, doll.

KC: Bye, Lieutenant!

Six Sentence Sunday: Beneath Dark Stars

November 4, 2012

When I decided to create my shapeshifter, Sundown, I knew he would young-at-heart with a wide streak of mischief in his soul. I had to explain how his people got to Earth, how they blended in and how they survived. It was so much fun I'm currently working on the fourth book in the Sundown series!

This week's six sentences come from the second in the series, Beneath Dark Stars. There's a lot of things about humans Sundown is in the process of figuring out for himself. But he knows one thing for certain - Fallon is his. Of course, Fallon enjoys teasing Sundown from time-to-time.

His eyes flashed an angry red as his spine straightened. “This is a young man you must now work beside?”

“Don’t get excited, babe. He’s only a kid, a rookie, and Juny and I wi—.”

“How young? I will meet this boy and explain to him he would be in error to desire you
!”
